Child Protection and Grooming Workshop for Clergy and Youth Workers - 15 May 2017

DIOCESE OF GIPPSLAND One-Day Training Workshop for Clergy and those involved in youth ministry Child Protection and Grooming - Monday 15 May 2017 Facilitator: Andrea Musulin ____ The workshop will be held on Monday 15 May 2017, at St Mary’s Trafalgar commencing at 10am and concluding 3.15pm. The workshop will be conducted by Andrea Musulin who has a background of 28 years’ experience as a police officer specialising in child protection. She has provided services to children in metropolitan, rural and remote areas of Western Australia and has developed the first and only Child Protection Program for Rural and Remote Children. She was inducted into Western Australia’s International Women’s Hall of Fame in 2011, being recognised as a leader and pioneer in the field of child protection. She is also highly experienced in educating children and youth in personal safety and abuse prevention. She currently works in the area of child protection with the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. During her 30 years with WA Police she has worked in reactive child protection services and pro-active child protection services for children, parents, families and institutions. She is currently the Ambassador of Protective Behaviours WA a not-for-profit Child Protection education and training organisation and as such draws on the many experiences these roles have afforded her. The proposed presentation will also draw on her more recent experiences as the Safeguarding Project Coordinator for the Perth Catholic Archdiocese and Creating Child Safe Organisations work. While she will not spend much time on the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse the inquiry will provide the context for the day’s agenda as will the global recipe for crime and how this fits into child sexual abuse offending in churches. All clergy are strongly urged to attend and too bring one or two parishioners involved in youth ministry. The numbers for the workshop are limited to 70. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
